Group Work, COMSC 315 Lab
The purpose of this assignment is to learn about virtualization and sharing of file systems between Linux and Windows using NFS and Samba.
For this assignment you will install Windows Vista on Fedora 17 using one of the open source solutions for virtualization. We suggest you use Virtual box. Student can also use Xen or another full virtualization solution if you are already familiar with it. This lab will be done during the recitation and checked off by the instructor or teaching assistant.
Install the required packages for virtualization, as described in (make sure you have installed fedora 17 with updates): http://www.tecmint.com/install-virtualbox-on-redhat-centos-fedora/
C:\WindowExports

another called C:\LinuxImports

Set up Samba to enable file sharing of the directory
C:\WindowsExports
on Windows to a directory called /imports
on
Fedora.
NOTE: Beware of firewall issues on both operating systems!
Setup Samba to enable file sharing of the NFS file system /exports
on
Fedora to a directory called C:\WindowsImports
on Windows. You
may use the system-config-samba
tool on Fedora.
NOTE: Beware of protection issues on both systems!
