Group Work
Exploring New Technologies
The purpose of this assignment is to make progress on the semester
project. We will be working on the project during one week of
recitations.
Description
The goals of this assignment are:
- To document a plan and schedule for your semester group project.
- To start installation of software needed for the group project.
The entire semester project is worth 20% of your grade!
Project Planning
- During the recitations next week, discuss how you will download and
install the software necessary for your project.
- Make a list of the software you require and attach it to the monitor
of your system in the COMSC 315 lab to alert other system users.
- Use the recitations to begin implementation of your project.
Select a system to work on the rest of the semester and
start installing software.
NOTE: If you are working on the project outside the lab you can meet
at another time and place, please let the instructor know when and were.
- Document the implementation plan (Part 6), which will describe what you
are going to do for the project in more detail in the following sections:
- 6.1)
- List the software components that you will install,
including version numbers and the software source.
- 6.2)
- Describe the user interface to your project—command line
or graphical user interface.
(Don’t just tell me which one—describe it.)
- 6.3)
- Describe the functionality that you will implement—this
will vary by project, but should include the extent of the work.
- 6.4)
- Describe the point of the work you are doing - what is notable
about the project and what do you expect to learn.
- 6.5)
- Describe the limitations and disadvantages of the project you
have selected—both in terms of scope and functionality.
- Document a preliminary schedule for the project (Part 7), in which you
describe what will be done when.
