Students are expected to attend lectures, where information will be given that is not available at any other place. Attendance at recitations is recorded and contributes to your grade. Students are expected to:
Excused absences are handled in accordance with CSU policies. If you are ill please let us know right away. CSU requires verifiable proof (e.g. a note from the health center) for students who wish to not be penalized for missed classes and work.
We also do not want you to come to class ill.Make up work will
need to be explicitly negotiated. The objectives include: getting
students to class; not spreading illness; and making
sure students who are ill receive appropriate treatment.
The material in this course (including learning to come to class and
stay awake) is important. Excessive absences will impact your grade.
Midterm and Finals: Make-up exams are only given for extraordinary circumstances (e.g., illness, death of family member). Students must consult with the instructor as soon as possible, preferably before the start of the exam. Examination dates are listed in the syllabus; be aware of them and plan accordingly.
Peer Instruction: Make-ups will be given for missed peer instruction if you have a documented excuse. If you are missing your iClicker during class, submit the answers on a paper with your name and ID to the instructor, for up to 80% credit.
Recitations: Make-ups will be given for missed recitations if you have a documented excuse, please arrange with the instructor or a teaching assistant.
Programming assignments: Programs are submitted electronically. Details appear with the first assignment (also see the Checkin tab). Always check the progress page for due dates. The due date will include a day and time. The assignment will also specify a late acceptance period which will incur a 20% late penalty. After the late period, electronic submission is closed; students that have not submitted programs receive no points for the assignment.
Math Homeworks: Homeworks must be submitted per the instructions in the assignment. Handwritten and scanned is acceptable, but the handwriting must be legible. The instructors and TAs reserve the right to decide whether or not a paper is legible. If a late period is allowed, late assignments will be accepted subject to a 20% late penalty.
Lab work is completed during recitations, and will be verified by the TA during the session. There is no make-up for recitation sections. You may attend a recitation other the one you are registered for only if there is space available. Students registered for a recitation have first priority.
Assignments will be submitted via the Checkin tab on the course web page unless stated otherwise.
Collaboration: We encourage you to talk with other students
about your assignments and questions, but make sure you do your
own homework. You may not copy another student's program or other work
(either with or without their knowledge), nor write code or other work
for them, nor can you copy solutions from the Internet. Please read
the departmental
policy statement regarding incompletes, academic integrity,
and class attendance. As a general rule of thumb, in any discussion
with your classmates or friends, assume that an instructor and/or a
GTA is observing your discussion. If that makes you uncomfortable,
you are probably crossing the line. If you really want to be sure,
post the discussion in a public place like Piazza (see
the Syllabus tab, and see if it is
flagged down as crossing the line.
